Home Exercises-Visual Motor Integration
- Tracing tasks- horizontal/vertical lines, diagonal lines, circular patterns stars- use a dotted sequence to have your child practice.
- Name Tracing- Handwritingworksheets.com or createprintables.com
- Present tracing tasks on vertical surface, slant board or easel
- Draw lots of 4 slanted lines ////\\\\ to make a fir tree and have child go over the diagonal lines and make them longer
- Magnadoodle, you write first and have child trace it
- Hand writing without tears- wet-dry-try
- Lazy 8’s (can be done on vertical surface or floor)- Have child start at the top of the right hand loop and draw down the diagonal to the bottom left loop, up the left and down the diagonal to the bottom of the right loop and back up again- Reverse that for a left handed child (practice 3-5 times)
- Practice patterns on white board, blackboard, mirror with or without tactile input (shaving cream, sand)
- Eye hand coordination tasks- ping pong, tennis, ball in a cup,
- Make sure they have prewriting skills, vertical/horizontal/diagonal lines
- Connect the dots
- Dot pictures and grid pictures-look at picture and copy it i.e How to draw books are great for VMI skills
- Tracing with stencils
- Crossword puzzles, word finds, word searches
- Games- Rush Hour Jr., iPad Letter tracing apps- Dexteria, HWT, Square up, I spy, The Genius Square
